Spring Cleaning Your Coffee Maker
Its that time of year again… spring cleaning. Fun. So much fun. Notice the sarcastic tone? Well this weekend that is exactly what my honey and I did all weekend. Stirred up all that dust that brought my allergies back with a vengeance. But enough with the complaining… onto the suggestion.
We have a coffee maker we bought about 6 months ago that is pretty fancy. By far the best coffee maker we’ve ever had. It takes only 5 mins for it to brew a pot of coffee and is very helpful in the morning when I’m rushing around because I’ve over slept, yet again.
Lately though the coffee maker has been making a pot in about 30 mins. A little longer then the original 5 mins. So I knew it was time to clean it out.
So how do you clean it? Easy! All you need is vinegar and water.
Ingrediants:
White Vinegar
Water

In your coffee pot fill it up half way with water, then fill the rest up with vinegar. That’s right, equal parts of both. Pour the water/vinegar mixture into the coffee pot, as if you were making coffee and start brewing. Make sure you don’t have any coffee grounds in there. ;)
It may take 2 or even 3 times to get the coffee pot clean. Making a fresh water/vinegar mixture each time. Once it starts brewing the water clear and or your water comes out faster you know you are done.
Then you take your coffee pot and rinse out and fill up entirely with water and run through your coffee maker once or twice, making sure to use a fresh pot of water each time. Personally I ran it 3 times to make sure all the vinegar was out. You will be able to smell when your pot of water brews if you need to brew another pot of water.
This is so easy to do because you pour it in and walk away. Come back when its done and do it again. In the meantime you can get your cobwebs out from under the couch. Have fun. :)

Great suggestion! Does this work for espresso machines too?
It sure does! Use the same ratio of water to vinegar and then rinse with water well.
Awesome! I’m going to have to do that. Thank you!
